Ryan Lochte – More Reality TV Star than Global Brand Embassador

I just finished watching this clip of Ryan Lochte expounding on how he was looking to build his ‘brand’ similarly to the likes of Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. I watched in amazement as he expressed this supposition as if it were somehow possible. I’m guessing his aspirations are based on the handful of lucrative endorsement deals he already has in place. Most likely, he’s being buoyed by the silver screen stardom promises from his team of agents, managers, PR personnel, and lawyers.

Ryan’s done well for himself and I commend him for his dedication and success in his sport – no one can ever take that or his medals away. Unfortunately for him, and other athletes who don’t play highly televised sports, over the next few weeks, months, and years after the Olympics, their stars will dim similar to the hoards of other reality TV celebrities. Ride the wave while you can Ryan, because in my humble opinion you’re more “Situation” than Mike.
