As a world-renowned marine and energy solutions leader with operations in over 200 locations in more than 80 countries, Helsinki-based Wärtsilä determined that it was time to address the environmental tipping point we’ve reached and help lay the foundation for a sustainable future.
The brand launched Oceanic Awakening, an ambitious initiative rooted in a platform called SEA20, which, by 2020, aims to connect and inspire 20 of the world’s most influential port cities to develop Smart Marine ecosystems that rely on digitalization, and cost-effective, carbon-free shipping via smart vessels. TRUST partnered with Wärtsilä to ensure that its oceanic messaging was communicated successfully in the US and reflected the brand’s goals with coverage in a wide range of business, technology and urban sustainability media outlets.
Influencer Research, Curation and Coordination
TRUST created a multi-tiered PR strategy ahead of the official launch that began with researching, identifying and hand-selecting US-based thought leaders and influencers from the fields of design, urban sustainability and architecture and coordinating their participation in Wärtsilä’s pre-launch workshop in Hamburg, Germany.

TRUST’s multi-layered strategy and promotion for Wärtsilä proved successful in multiple ways, from press outreach to influencers spreading the word about the Oceanic initiative through their social channels.
By communicate the model, message and potential sustainable impact of Oceanic Awakening, TRUST garnered coverage for the initiative in a broad range of media outlets, which translated into hundreds of thousands of views, hundreds of shares and opened a pivotal dialog with key influencers and US marine decision-makers.
