SOCIETY Welcomes Trio of Acclaimed Directors, Merges Live-Action, Animation Under One Banner
Los Angeles-based production company SOCIETY has solidified its film, broadcast and branded content offerings by aligning sister animation company The Academy under one single banner. The newly unveiled SOCIETY not only houses both live-action and animation services, but a bolstered directorial roster that includes the additions of mixed-media powerhouse, Brikk, witty maestros of motion graphics, Cub Studios, and We Think Things – a dynamic duo known for their unique characters and playful storytelling.
“When we started SOCIETY two years ago, we talked a lot about remaining nimble enough to stay current,” says Co-Founder/Executive Producer Harry Calbom. “On our website, we state a commitment to ‘always be built for now.’ And although we’ve historically drawn a line between animation and live-action production, we’ve seen more and more overlap between those divisions, a gradual blurring of the lines.”
With the merge of Academy into SOCIETY, the former’s staff animation producer David “Guti” Rosado, will now serve as Head of Post-Production for SOCIETY, joining a roster of not only the aforementioned new hires, but acclaimed directors such as J. Austin Wilson, Zia Mohajerjasbi, Sean Pecknold, David Viau, Christian Sorensen Hansen, Rachel Lee Goldenberg, Megan Griffiths and Lynn Shelton.
“What I can pledge is that we’ll continue to grow a roster of directors that to us feels ready for the future,” Calbom adds. “We’ll encourage collaboration between the directors on our roster, probably taking more projects through post production. As we continue to grow I expect that there will be more pivots in the future, but what will remain consistent is the way we treat our directors, agency partners and clients. We exist to connect artists and brands, and we serve our clients better when our directors present a diverse set of styles. Ultimately, it will be the experience of working with us that will define how we are unique in the market.”
As SOCIETY unites operations from both levels of the production spectrum, the company has continued crafting innovative work for feature films, documentaries and campaigns for the likes of Nissan, Gatorade, Walgreens, Audi, Intel, Wendy’s and Wells Fargo.
