LOGAN Co-Founder/Director Ben Conrad and his crew headed to Ensenada, Mexico, home of the famous Baja 1000, for “Recoil 2,” starring two-time consecutive Baja champion “Ballistic” BJ Baldwin. In a follow up to last year’s viral hit “Recoil,” Baldwin brings his signature wide open, full-throttle racing style to the narrow, winding streets of small town Mexico. Conrad, his team, and Hoonigan Chief Brand Officer Brian Scotto took the creative reins from concept through post delivering a truly memorable, seven minute cinematic brand film.
In “Recoil 2: Unleashed in Ensenada” infamous poker player and overall madman Dan Bilzerian airlifts Baldwin to a remote location outside of Ensenada and challenges him to a race against the clock to make it to the beach in 20 minutes. Baldwin hops into his iconic off-road monster truck and races down the dirt road, stirring up copious amounts of debris in his wake. As he enters the town, he showcases an impressive array of driving techniques, zigzagging through the streets and soaring over countless obstacles such as rocky terrain and steep stairways. In order to capture all the action, GoPro cameras were installed in a number of unique locations including under the car, beside the driver, and on the hood. Baldwin arrives at the beach with seconds to spare and is met by Bilzerian, the Baja Beach Babes, and Combat the dog.
“We wanted to really showcase BJ’s skills as a driver,” said Conrad. “Instead of the hilly terrain he’s used to, we took him out of that comfort zone and threw him into a small town. Nothing like power lines and tight turns to test your reflexes as a driver.”
Conrad and the Logan team have extensive experience working with extreme driving films, including the viral sensations “Gymkhana 5: Ultimate Urban Playground San Francisco” with 65 million views on YouTube and “Footkhana,” a football-themed spin off featuring Brazilian star Neymar.
