Platige to Bring Innovative
3D Stage Play Technology to New York

After mesmerizing Polish audiences with Polita, a first-of-its kind 3D theater experience, Platige is preparing to bring its game-changing stage technology to Broadway. Polita was a riveting musical, chronicling the journey of silent film-era Polish-star-cum-Hollywood-legend Pola Negri. With the help of Platige’s ever-innovative technical team, the original production dazzled with the meticulous fusion of 20 painstakingly crafted virtual 3D sets and live on-stage actors. Current plans would see the techniques developed for Polita’s original run adapted to new work for American audiences.

Polish stage director Janusz Józefowicz originally approached Platige with the idea of a stereoscopic set that would complement live actors, opening up a realm of mountains, oceans and allegories unachievable with traditional set design. The result is an experience every bit as immersive as a 3D movie, a perfect match for an era of Broadway spectacle that has produced recent productions like Fela! and Julie Taymor’s Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark.

The technology behind Polita constitutes just one entry in a long line of innovative work for Platige, which has created, among other projects, a combined music/CG graphic opening ceremony for CeBIT Fair, the first stereoscopic reconstruction of Jan Matejko’s Battle of Grunwald painting, and the Emmy-nominated set design for Krzysztof Penderecki Seven gates of Jerusalem. The studio has also created several award-winning cinematics and shorts.

“Creating a production like Polita required months of painstaking experimentation and trial-and-error – after all, no one had ever done something like this before,” states Managing Director Julian Cade. “Having successfully executed it in Poland, we now possess the technology and expertise to bring this experience to nearly any stage production. Our works often breaks new ground not only in Poland, but worldwide, so we’re excited to be delivering this one of a kind experience to new audiences.”
