BKWLD Brings the “Photo Booth” into the 21st Century with Their SXSW “GIF Booth”
BKWLD and Samsung bring the next great innovation in interactive social photography with the “GIF Booth” allowing you to make a few animated memories at this year’s SXSW Festival. The booth, which replaces the conventional “photo” aspect with the fun, Web 2.0-friendly GIF, gives consumers a digital takeaway that they can hold onto forever.
The concept, which originated from the recent 72andSunny created Samsung television campaign “Unicorn Apocalypse,” challenged BKWLD to transform the playful and stylish art direction of the spots into an on-site interactive activation for the SXSW Festival. BKWLD then used those materials to create the GIF-creation software and art direct the entire experience, from the booth itself to the GIF animation options.
“Samsung wanted to showcase the Galaxy Camera, Galaxy Note 10.1, and Galaxy Note II, and in this experience, the user has the opportunity to have their photos taken with the Galaxy camera and explore the GIFs with the Galaxy tablets,” explained Ryan Vanni, CEO at BKWLD. Users can even use tablets to email to friends or post to Facebook or Twitter.
By utilizing Samsung’s sleek and powerful Galaxy technology, BKWLD brings a fun and subtle engagement factor to SXSW’s burgeoning tech-oriented audience. “The SXSW crowd is up to date on technology, so they know how things work,” continued Vanni. “However, animated GIFs are the epitome of low-tech Internet artistry, so this project bridges them – high technological quality of Samsung’s product line and low-tech artistry of everyone’s current favorite Internet pastime.”
BKWLD’s on-site festival staff will include Director of Production Donald Fierros, Tech Director Justin Jewett, Art Director/Developers Matt Aebersold and Robert Reinhard, and Animator Chad Turner, who will be working all week long to bring SXSW this entertaining advancement in creative social technology.
