Rock Paper Scissors, a52 Rise Together with Delta

Rock Paper Scissors editorial and a52 recently continued their long-time partnership with a pair of black-and-white beauties for Delta, directed by MJZ’s Joaquin Baca-Asay via Wieden + Kennedy. Editor Ted Guard assembled Baca-Asay’s phenomenal footage into the stirring Anthem and the uplifting Up, while a52’s VFX team led by Andy McKenna filled out the sequences with CG shots that were unachievable in-camera.

Anthem, a deliberate journey from the streets of Manhattan to LaGuardia Airport complete with stunning panoramas, is at once an encomium to New York City and a validation of the chops it takes for Delta to claim the top spot among the city’s airlines. Up splices the upward camera movements through airline terminals, back rooms, and airlines to make them appear as one contiguous, layered organism as a narrator talks about Delta’s relentless efforts to improve.

“Working with Joaquin, we designed shots that would blend seamlessly with the live-action photography, knowing that Ted at Rock Paper Scissors would find moments in the edit to showcase them,” noted a52 EP Jennifer Sofio Hall.

This Delta campaign continues a long-running relationship between Guard and Baca-Asay, who teamed up most recently on a celebratory spot marking the end of last year’s NFL lockout and a busy, fast-moving commercial showcasing Sprint’s unlimited data plans.
