Sound Lounge Mixes Eight Projects for Sundance


The Brief:

Sound Lounge's talented stable of sound editors and re-recording mixers contributed to eight projects that will debut at this month's Sundance Film Festival. Their work includes a pair of entries in the Dramatic Competition, one Spotlight film, one documentary, the closing night film, and three shorts.

Dramatic Competition

  • The Dry Land

Directed by Ryan Piers Williams and produced by Heather Rae (Frozen River), The Dry Land is the story of an Iraqi veteran who struggles to reconstruct his life upon returning home.
  • Blue Valentine

Blue Valentine is the project of director and co-writer Derek Cianfrance, 12 years in the making. The film stars Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams playing young parents, struggling to save their marriage.

Documentary Competition
Directed by Alex Gibney, whose film Taxi to the Dark Side won an Oscar (mixed by Sound Lounge's Tony Volante), Casino Jack and the United States of Money portrays the fall of D.C. lobbyist Jack Abramoff from an over-zealous member of Republican political world to a shamed outsider. The film brings viewers along for an adventurous ride as it shows how money undermines politics.

Spotlight Competition
In Daddy Longlegs (formerly known as Go Get Some Rosemary) Josh and Benny Safdie have crafted a realistic fairy tale that captures the magic of parenthood.

Closing Night Film
  • Twelve

Directed by Joel Schumacher, Twelve is a film based on a novel by Nick McDonell and set in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Twelve follows White Mike, who opts to sell marijuana to his privileged peers instead of finishing his senior year of high school. Drama ensues when his cousin is murdered and his best friend is arrested for the crime. The film boasts a talented cast: Chase Crawford, Emma Roberts, Cory Culkin, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Keifer Sutherland, and Ellen Barkin.

  • Shimásání

Screened at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival and directed by Blackhorse Lowe, Shimásání takes place in the late1920s on a Navajo reservation. The story follows Mary Jane, a daydreamer, who after seeing a geography map of the world, is conflicted by the choice to maintain her lifestyle on the reservation or explore worlds unknown.

Directed by Sean Durkin, Mary Last Seen follows the journey of a young woman and her boyfriend on a road trip to a place he claims will be perfect. When events take an odd turn, she realizes that things are not what they seem.
  • Fiddlestixx
    Re-recording Mixer: Evan Mangiamele
    (World Premiere at Sundance)
Directed by the Zellner Brothers, Fiddlestixx is a film about a very special monkey.
