AfriCOBRA Returns to TV Land in NOLA-Directed Documentary

In celebration of Black History Month, Nola Pictures' Juan Delcan and Kenny Morrison co-directed a TV Land documentary about Chicago-based art collective AfriCOBRA (the African Commune of Bad Relevant Artists), a powerful voice in the African-American arts community.

AfriCOBRA: Art For The People, written and produced by TV Land, tells the four-decades-plus history of this extraordinary group of artists in 30 minutes, taking viewers from the collective's earliest days in Chicago at the height of the American civil rights movement to its ongoing success in 2011. Using a blend of archived and original footage, Delcan and Morrison present compelling interviews and historic still shots to introduce AfriCOBRA's most influential artists, point to the group's defining moments, and break down the artworks' various layers, including the meaning of common themes of color and shapes.

The documentary - which aired Monday, Feb. 7 on TV Land and is available for streaming on - follows production and post of a multi-platform promotional campaign that NOLA worked on for TV Land and its website and that ran in February 2010.

AfriCOBRA: Art For The People aired for the second time on February 27th at 8pm.
