Gretel Makes a Man Out of Spike TV |
The Brief: |
From Creative Director/Director Greg Hahn of Gretel comes these highly stylized, cinematic opening titles and 15 category opens such as: Biggest Ass Kicker, Ballsiest Band, and Hottest Girl for the heavily trafficked first annual Guy’s Choice Awards hosted by Tracy Morgan for Spike TV. |
The Story: |
Hahn and co-director Darius Maghen utilized the Phantom HD camera, shooting high-speed at 1000-3000 fps. A jaw-splitting punch to the face, a sexy vixen packing heat, and a computer shattering into millions of pieces become poignant, powerful moments as we explore the inner workings of a split second. The subject matter is raw, befitting an awards show geared to the male audience, but the look is very sophisticated. Greg notes, “we wanted to achieve a high end men's fashion mag feel. We went with a simple color palette of black, white, red and silver to create a slick, masculine aesthetic.”
The overall show was executive produced and directed by industry veteran Joel Gallen, who’s credits include: Not Another Teen Movie, multiple MTV Movie Awards, and various television specials. Joel commented on the collaboration with Gretel, “Greg and his team were able to create integral show elements that truly elevated it to another level.” Show Producer Josh Greenberg also noted, “Since this was guys choice and on Spike TV, I knew I didn't want anything frilly or precious…I was really impressed at the original vision Gretel delivered. Instead of the expected in-your-face style synonymous with Spike, Gretel managed to develop a language that was both masculine and elegant. The piece felt cinematic and important which was befitting for one of the biggest shows in Spike’s history.” |
