HUSH Adds Senior Designer John Soat and Environmental Designer David Lehman

Following the recent addition of Design Director Claudia Chagüi, HUSH continues its growth as designers John Soat and David Lehman join the agency’s gifted team of artists. With their respective skills in design and architecture/environmental design, each brings a wealth of experience and creativity that will fuel HUSH’s continued commitment to helping elevate brands with the power of great design.

A student of everything from illustration and painting to graphic design and sculpture, Soat began his creative career at Shopbop while simultaneously starting printmaking studio Animal Canon. There he designed posters for bands such as The Antlers, Yeasayer, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Built to Spill, and others while also cultivating his love for creating music. Soat then moved to San Francisco to work at design firm Character, collaborating on identity, branding, illustration, and interactive projects for brands like Nike, Jordan, Skullcandy, and Amazon.

Soat’s creative eye is assured and measured, maintaining a delicate balance that is reflected in much of his work including the acclaimed redesign of Media Temple’s website and brand language.

“John is one of the most gifted, well-rounded designers I’ve come across in recent years,” says HUSH Creative Partner David Schwarz. “I knew the first time I met him – a freelancer who’d just moved to NY – I wanted him on our staff. His touch is natural, his skills are wide and his eye is detailed. He contributed immediately to both our work and our culture, and I’m looking forward to watching him grow with us.”

Lehman joins HUSH from the world of architecture, having worked in the commercial and retail realm where his design and production talents dovetailed with his love for the technological. He has collaborated with Alexander Gorlin Architects for projects in Abu Dhabi and Dubai on their waterfront communities and worked with PBC+L Architects to design the North Carolina Museum of Art’s 127,000 square foot addition. With display and fabrication firm Twoseven, Lehman also developed five consecutive national window campaigns for Chanel while refining the company’s design and production system.

As a designer, Lehman is focused on how technology has enabled new approaches to typical design problems while also developing design solutions with warmth.

“David Lehman is such a perfect addition to our ever-growing team. As we expand our base offerings, particularly in architecture, minds and talents like him are what sets us apart,” explains Creative Director Jodi Terwilliger. “An architect, with an eye towards experimentation and a mind for deep knowledge and detail, he’s truly a link in the chain towards our awesome future.”
